On January 31, 2025, the Deposit Insurance Corporation (DIC) spearheaded a tree-planting initiative at Namwanje Primary School in Blantyre, led by our Board Chairperson, Dr. Gabriella Chiutsi Phiri. During the event, 1,000 trees were planted to contribute to environmental restoration and community well-being. A similar effort followed on February 4, 2025, at Tadala Primary School in Chitedze, Lilongwe, where our Vice Board Chairperson, Mr. Abison Chitukula, was present as another 1,000 trees were planted.

This initiative goes beyond reforestation—it directly enhances the lives of students and their communities. The fruit trees planted will, in the future, provide a sustainable source of nutritious food, enriching the school feeding program and supporting children’s health. Meanwhile, the indigenous trees will serve as a renewable source of firewood, ensuring that schools can prepare warm meals essential for students’ well-being and concentration in class.

By integrating environmental conservation with educational support, this initiative underscores our commitment to sustainability and community resilience. Conducted under the theme: “Restore Forests and Land to Secure Food Production,” it highlights the important role of afforestation in securing both ecological and economic stability for future generations.

We extend our appreciation to the Department of Forestry, local leaders, learners, community members who have committed their time and effort to environmental restoration
