On Thursday, 26 March 2026, the DIC had the privilege of facilitating an educational visit for Faculty of Law students from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), following an invitation from the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
Our engagement went beyond basic awareness, focusing on the legal, regulatory, and institutional framework of deposit insurance. Given the students’ legal background, the discussion highlighted statutory foundations, rights and obligations, enforcement mechanisms, and the interaction between the DIC Act and other financial sector laws.
The session was highly interactive, with students posing insightful questions on areas such as bank liquidation and the distinction between the Insurance Act and the DIC Act. It was encouraging to see such enthusiasm and critical thinking from the future leaders of the legal profession. Students who actively participated were recognized with DIC branded materials.
The session was led by the Manager, Operations, Ms Lowina Mwasigala and forms part of our ongoing commitment to public awareness and stakeholder engagement.
We appreciate the opportunity to share knowledge and contribute to building a well-informed generation that understands the role of deposit insurance in safeguarding financial stability in Malawi.
